wouldn't all the olds 88's and such, that had the 3.8's in them back then, all have those heads?

Yes, you can use those. but there's a difference in valve train I think. One of the models had the exact heads though. The TTA also had special pistons to get the right compression for boost with those heads. Since the heads were made to be used on an n/a motor.

Hmm. My 01 camaro has a 3.8L......I wonder if those heads would work on an older one.............

Someone told me a 4.3 is like a 327 with two cylinders cut off and a 3.8L is like a 305 with two cylinders cut off... Shrug

A 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off. It uses the exact same pistons/rods/rings/valves etc.

You're confusing 2 different 3.8s. You're camaro has a buick 3.8, just like most of the fwd cars, the GN, and alot of cars way back into the 60s.It's a 231cid motor. But there was a chevy 3.8 also. This was made in the early 80s. This is a 229cid motor and it is a 305 with 2 cylinders cut off.. Just like the 4.3 all the parts are the same.

right......It was you who told me the similarities Between the 90 Degree Chevy V6's and Small Blocks, I guess I just got a fact or two skewed.

I know the Buick 3.8L is pretty much a staple now between all divisions (Buick, Chevy, Pontiacs) where a 3.8L is used in both RWD and FWD applications. Kind of how third gen Trans Am and Z/28 both got a Chevy Small block.

3.8L Chevy (229ci) was used in 78-86 Malibu's/El-camino's, and 78-81 Camaro's...were there any other chassis it was used in?

Realistically though, whats the difference between the 231's head and the 229's head? Is it as different as a Chevy 400 and Pontiac 400?

Exactly. One's a chevy, one's a buick. The 229 head looks like a shortened up sb head. The 231 is totally different. Head bolt pattern, cylinder spacing, manifolds etc all different.

not quite,gn's and ttas had forged components, and lower compression ratio, try that on a cast internal 3.8 and youll be picking up the peices if you run it hard.
