I'l post up a few of the snapped shots today... Got everything off the engine and the trans out. Still need to yank the engine (everything is disconnected) and slap everything back together.

Only casualty so far has been a broken trans xmember bolt.

The car at the end of the day.

The car at the begining

Al and tony

The trans after wrestling the shifter off.

More comes tommorrow!

We're out at Bangor Sub base in the "hobby shop"

Heated, all the tools we could need as well as the lift. Makes for very easy (still time consuming) work.

Damn, that's pretty tight. Does the Navy just let you guys in like that, or are they picky about it?

Most of the guys in there were either military or dependents (kids) of military, and I'm retired Navy, so no problem looking the way we do. Very Happy

Not quite done, the new motor (minus the intake and exhaust) is resting on the mounts and the tranny needs to be installed, then all the accessories put in place. Have to wait now 'til Wednesday. One more casualty - broke an exhaust manifold bolt off in the manifold (driver's side), looks like I may need a new one (or one from the Junkyard).

Old engine minus accessoris and intake plenum.

Old engine coming out

Empty bay

New engine out of crate and on hoist

Ian and Tony transferring parts from old to new block

I still fail to see why you would swap another V6 in, but to each their own. You planning on getting it blown, or modding it, you are you just going with a stock-to-stock swap?

I envy you guys and your garage quite a bit. I spent the better part of this afternoon in windy, 40 degree weather pulling the panel off my drivers side door to swap out a frozen lock. Luckily my Dad had an '84 Buick Century sitting in the backyard which had identical cyclinders in it, so aside from needing some black touch-up paint it's good to go. Tomorrow I'm digging back into that car to see if I can get a power door lock solenoid out of it.

Just stock to stock for now. Maybe later some mild mods (I like my gas mileage).

no. status so far. engine is placed in car, bolts for mounts are in, but not tight.

still to go on engine:
all accessories, intake manifold, driver side exhaust manifold (we broke a bolt off in it, then an easy out, then in an attempt to weald another bolt to it, wealded the broken stuff to the manifold) all wireing and stuff, trannsmission (need to get a broken off bolt out of the bellhousing), thats it. the auto hoby shop opens up again on wednesday (always closed monday and tuesday, closed this sunday cause of presidents day). so i will be driving the v6 up there on wednesday to knock the rest of that stuff out.

Running or not, I'd like to have it out of that bay on Wednesday. We should be able to finish up the hard stuff early enough so the lift isn't needed anymore.

al, if you can't find a good exhaust manifold in the junkyard tomorow make me your first phone call [(971)-645-9359 ] as i will be hitting the yards myself tomorow. i will be on the hunt for a tilt colum with wiper delay. i can pull a manifold while i am there if you can't get one in your area. i should be done in the yards by 1PM, but call me as early as you can if you don't find one. Surprised

ian, i'll be on the lookout for that bracket for you too Surprised

Found what I needed at the junkyard here, also pulled all the bolts and studs. Went to the parts store and picked up the donuts to connect the manifolds to the exhaust pipes.

I have a feeling this may go into Saturday and maybe Sunday as there is still alot to do. I have to work on Thursday and Friday. If we're not done on Wednesday, you are certainly welcome to come out. I just want the car out of the lift bay by the end of Wednesday, running or not ($4.50/hr does add up, but still less than mechanic). So far it has been fun, it's my first and I'm learning a bit as we go. Smile

I think chevymad nailed it when he said the crank thrust bearing was shot. Before we pulled the harmonic balancer, we could move the crank forward and back about an inch.

Push it outside, then push it back in when you are ready to work on it again. Wink (unless they charge you to park it outside for a couple of days.
