ok, this is a bit off topic, but still car related.
please, someone tell me it does not cost 838 dollars to change out the timing belt on a 1995 honda accord. now, maybe the engine is a bit harder to work on then a american V8 but really?
obviously dealers jacks up prices like crazy because most of the people that go there don’t know any better, but seriously, 838 bucks seems high. I got quoted 100 bucks from the corner shop to replace my belts in the TA, parts and labor.
now, i aint no mechanic so maybe im totaly wrong here. any idea of what a reasonable price to do this job would be?
thanks |

what all does that include? YOu probably need to figure several hours worth of labor in. Changing a timing belt, is not like changing an alternator belt.
If that includes a new timing belt, a couple of pullies, gaskets, etc, etc, then it might be on par. The are going to quote you for the price of parts, and book time on the job, based on their shop rate. Call a couple of other shops, and get a quote, it is likely in the same range.
Just don't try to compare a timing belt, with belts on teh TA. to get a better feel for price comparison, ask for a quote on a timing chain for the TA. |

| That is probobly close to correct. The quote I received for my timing chain on my RS was over $1000 parts and labor. Luckily I had the cash from an expense re-imbursement for a business trip to Osaka. |

so here is the tome to do a t-belt on a 95 honda accord 2.2 vtech
t-belt 3.5
add
AC 0.5
camshaft seal replacement 0.4
reseal oil pump 2.2
water pump 0.7
Tensioner 0.9
so that is a total of possibly 8.2 hours shop rate ia possibly $80hr that
is$656 in labor plus parts
seals about $20
belt $70
water pump $60
Tensioner $60 Parts total $210
job toatal $866
I dont know if this was all the work you were quoted but that is just a guess as to what you were quoted. _________________
