Maybe I am the only one here that hates jacking the front of the car under the crossmember. The shape of the crossmember and the fact that there is usually oil on it makes me nervous of the car slipping of of the jack crushing the oilpan. On my car at least the Y pipe is just a little lower than the crossmember and I always wind up with the jack pad just barely hooking the crossmember. Plus add to this that my shop floor is not real smooth and the car has to roll forward with the jack. There is a hole in the crossmember that is about a 1/2 inch in diameter so I turned a deal on my lathe that just slips into the jack where the pad slips in. On the other end I just made a 1/2 inch diameter stud that fits in the hole on the crossmember. I am about 260 lbs so I have to jack the car up to do anything under it, and this will hopefully save me some time and give me some piece of mind that the car will not slip off.Smile

Screw the oilpan, I'm more concerned about it crushing ME if it slips! Wink

looks good rodney, i might have mad the pad larger, i would worry about that much weight being concentrated on that small of a pad, but the stud to locate on the x-member is a good idea Very Happy

Thanks for the complements. And for those that doubt it's strength, it would take a whole lot bigger jack for this thing to fail. It's only use is for the Camaro and there isn't even 2000 pounds on the front axle. Ithink it's safe enough. Laughing

i was so much worried about the jack, as i was the localised pressure on the k-member. but that should also be plenty strong.

Actually John, next time you jack your rig up take a look at whats actually holding the car up. Usually its the knobs on my jack pad pickin the car not the pad itself. So that would be even more localized.
