So is it redneck or trailer trash to put up a harbor freight instant garage next to my trailer so I can house my firebird? It could only sound worse if I had a camaro! |

Well... I would speculate that those two things in too close proximity can spawn a tornado. You're probably dealing with forces you do not understand. |

It would all be fine but if a couch makes it to the front yard then that would put it over the top lol
Honestly I would do whatever I needed too In order to keep the ride nice. This is coming from someone that had one of those makeshift garages already at one time lol _________________

I'm tired of the car being covered in bird doo every time I want to drive it. That and I'm kind of scared of the old barn coming down one of these winters. I'm debating a 2nd one of these garages for the 74 as well. |

I saw the roof frame and hinges torn completely off of a car (a convertible, admittedly) being stored in one of those. The tent picked up two solid concrete pier blocks and several 5-gallon buckets full of gravel and drug the entire mess about thirty feet until it hit a fence. This was just a urban Tacoma storm too, not one of your fancy backwoods windstorms. |

I get a wind like that and I'll be missing a porch and a barn. |

Very true. If the barn can't survive snow it's probably not going to survive a mini-cane either. I'm not advocating against the tent, just that you think about a thorough method for securing it and be realistic about it possibly doing damage to the car under certain conditions.
If I was setting up another one I would set all eight legs into five-gallon buckets and fill them with concrete. Still mobile since you can unbolt the legs from the trusses and move the individually, but much less likely to slide or tip in a windstorm.
You can also get a two car version of those tents if you wanted to cover the 2nd gen at the same time, but the price starts to climb quickly. |

I think the biggest thing is not to allow the tent to begin to lift. Once air can slide under it it becomes a kite with alot of lifting surface. Right now its just got 4 ground anchors. They screwed in hard enough that I was starting to twist the shaft instead of screwing them in. I've got 4 more to install and I'll be using ratchet straps to tighten down to them. This should stop any initial movement.
Guy I work with has one of these and he hasn't had any problem with it pulling the ground anchors.. but he did have the wind collapse the tent by bending the corner braces. |

Put the bird in it's house last night. Barely fits! But will be so nice not to have a filthy car whenever I want to use it. Need to wash and put the car cover on it yet though.
Another cool use for the Harbor Freight transmission jack. Thing works perfect for removing and installing doors. Set the door edge right in the groove and lift the door up and down wherever you need it. Could use a bit more rolling resistance on the floor though. I took the door off of the 2nd gen tonight and replaced the broken upper hinge. I've done it by myself several times before but this was so much easier.
Oh and the door fits and works sooooo much better now. And no more horrendous clunk every time you open or close it. The detent roller was broken on the old one. Of course 2nd gen is the one generation you can't just get a roller.
Now, which bird goes to the Rod Run this weekend? |

Okay, using the word 'house' is definitely redneck. |

Had one of those tents for while a long time ago and it was fine but I had some Serious stakes nailed down. _________________
