I've got a few records but no turntable myself. However, I was just on another forum and ran into talk about Jack White's new "Ultra LP" Alot of gimmickery but still kinda cool.

Gimmicky indeed.
I am curious how nicely running the needle out would play with the anti-skate and if that would mess up the channel balance.
Records have become annoying collector/hipster items now, which is sort of odd to me. When I was a kid I got into it because people were giving away old record players and Hi-Fi equipment. I would fix what I could and listen for free. Now prices are way up and people are releasing goofball stuff like this.
You can still find turntables for a decent price. Don't buy a new or really old one. There is a definite bell curve of good quality from the mid-70's through the late 80's. |

Can you imagine your needle after running it on the label? |

Haha... I just watched the rest of that video and yeah, geez, that's pretty rough.
Only really high-end or really low-end tables can play into the paper anyway. Otherwise the auto-queue will pull the arm up. Same thing with the 78 rpm cut. |

I pull out the records near Christmas to listen to the Christmas music from my childhood. I have the stereo system my parents had.
I also have a lot of records from the 20's and 30's from my grandparents but can't play them. Needs a faster speed then my player will turn. |

Most of the bands I like are releasing digital and vinyl. And a tremendous amount of local music is too. Cds are becoming outdated.
The $130 sony usb unit from best buy sounds excellent, has software to rip and doesnt need a phono jack on your reciever as it has line in rcas.
I'm trying to research a decent pre amp to get my old turn table hooked to my good stereo. No phono input. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

You see the other music news today? Youtube is removing music because they've made a deal with the record companies to start a new pay per view music service. |

On the plus side, Amazon added free music to their Prime service.
Watching music is mostly what I use youtube for.. other then jeeping vids anyway. |

YouTube is making money hand over fist off of music. The loss of the 10% of the videos due to contract holdouts isn't going to hurt them.
Long term it sets a bad precedent for people negotiating contracts with Google, but we all know the "Do no evil" bit went out the window a decade ago once the money started rolling in. |

Since I have Amazon Prime i'm giving their free music a try tonight.. so far I like. Got it on a 90s playlist and it's not a bunch of crap i've never heard of. |
