Ok so I was looking at my vacuum lines and pcv setup and decided to putnit how it should be from factory so I put a new pcv and hose in. Routed it to back of plenum. Put brake booster to intake manifold. And on pass side I took out my breather and ran a hose from valve cover to the top of throttle body with no pcv in that side. My car burned a little oil on startup and heavy acceleration before. Andy (blufbdy) and I had our motors done by the same guy and his burns oil too so idk what the deal is with that. But now after the car warms up and I'm sitting at idle it is burning a lot of oil. I think I choked out the guy behind me in mcdonalds drive thru last night....any ideas?

Is this a MAF car?

If not a breather on the intake side of the CCV system is not hurting you.

Go back and check all your work. Make sure the intake comes from the proper port on the throttle body, make sure the PCV valve isn't clogged, ect.

MAP speed density car. And pcv is new with new hoses. Ccv on pass side is going to top port on the throttle body

New doesn't mean working, especially if you're pulling Chinese parts off the shelf at O'Reilly's.

Also, just because it rattles doesn't mean it's working. Blow through it both ways to confirm proper operation.

Beyond that I would suggest pulling the CCV line and putting the breather back in that side to see if that improves it any.

Are you running the factory TPI airbox? If so, how old are the filters?

When you blow through it should it completely stop the air going backwards or let a little through

picture is huge but heres a little update, still blows smoke but i decided to do a compression and coolant test, pressurized coolant and it wasnt loosing pressure and i didnt hear any leaks, and i havent noticed a loss of coolant. did compression and got 150psi on all cylinders. cylinder 8's plug was the only one that looked oily, and i have noticed a loss of oil, it leaks, but now that it smokes it goes through more. people on TGO say head gasket but that doesnt make sense because wouldnt i noticed it when i did a compression test? my close mechanic friends say valve stem seals...what do you guys think?

Head gasket isn't going to burn you oil. Oil comes from 3 places on your engine to be burned - Oil Control Rings, Valve Guide/Stem Seal, Crankcase Ventilation.

You have a MAP car, run a breather on the passenger side, and a PVC Valve in the valve cover on the drivers side that goes into the plenum of the intake. If your valve cover DOES NOT have a BAFFLE for the PVC, you will burn extra oil and smoke. Even without the breather, the line on the passenger side should be okay going to the port on the throttlebody. That port should be PRE butterfly meaning it doesn't have any vacuum on that line, allowing that line to pull filtered air from the intake duct, the valve cover, through the engine and out the PVC.

Oil control rings on a newer motor tend to smoke on acceleration, and guides/seals on startup/decal.

If you air filters are dirty, you just stepped on your manhood. Go clean them and get back to us.

Rolling Eyes

Those plugs looks pretty lousy. Is the fouling on one and four oil or rich mix?

If you and Andy had your engines rebuilt at the same shop and both have leaking valve seals then that may be a thing.

Didn't Al have an engine built there as well?
