so i was about to go to the store, remote started my car and noticed it wasnt running right, i go out there and the ses light is sorta flashing, and so i pull the code and prom error (code 51) came up, tried a backup chip i had and still code 51, why does this happen like every 2 months?? im pretty sure ive done everything right on the burning side, idk if there is any grounds under the steering column that might have been bumped when installing the new alarm, any thoughts?

normally i just re burn the chip and it goes away for a few months,

Sounds like some kind of power surge wiping the data on the chip.

No facts or experience to supoort this. Just a theory

I'd try some different chips all rogether

I disagree. There are millions of people worldwide using EEPROM's without issue in all kinds of electronic equipment. That's like saying "My car broke down, I'll just give up on it and ride a horse." Laughing

You have a lot of aftermarket accessories installed. I'm betting on a power surge as Paul mentioned, or maybe a faulty ground. Go through and check everything, especially the ECM circuit (there are several) and the ECM grounds.

I'm betting somebody tapped power for something off one of the nice pink wires under the dash, or maybe a missing ground strap off the block or something.

Also bear in mind that on a VATS car the ignition resistor circuit draws power from the ECM fuse, so if you have a goofy VATS bypass on your car that could be the issue.

Resistor is bad news. Bypass the damn thing properly and be done.
