I throw these in the trash, but besides reducing the gas smell, which I don't mind, what are they good for? Just curious.

They keep the fuel system a closed system. AKA no fuel fumes to piss off Al Gore. It's a small filtering system before the vapors from the tank go back into the intake to be burnt.

If you hate the environment then yes. However, if you just open the line from the tank to the atmosphere, you can get crap in there. Put some kind of filter on the line.

I'll take this under consideration. Neither Camaro is a daily driver and fuel vapors dissipate fairly quickly, but maybe if I can filter it in a way that's not into a giant black charcoal can I'll look into it. Smile

Cool

Tank venting into charcoal canister was equal parts enviromental and consumer. Who wants their car smelling like a freakin' refinery? Aside from James, obviously.

On several cars I shamelessly stole Ian's idea of just running a small fuel filter on the rubber line that used to go into the charcoal canister. It works fine but you will get fuel smell in the cab at low speeds on hot days.

Old school cars had a vented gas cap. That is still a viable tank vent option and puts the fumes behind you.

Whatever you do don't plug that line. I did that once back in my foolish teenage years. On hot days that gas cap would about launch itself at you. Laughing

I have a 72 jimmy with a charcole canister. So I dont see how its al gores fault.

The older ones are vac operated. Yours I think is electric? Not sure if it will throw a trouble code on an electric ran one. I guess since many of you have, it wont?

No code for EVAP on ECMs this old. Blind system.

Al Gore invented the internet in the early '60s so your '72 checks out, Jay. Cool
