|
|
So I'm looking to trade my car for a 3/4 ton truck. I have found an 04 dodge with the "c" code cummins engine. I am told it has leaky injectors, which from google searching appears this is a normal issue? Also looks like its not toooo overly difficult.
Pull rail
pull feader tubes
pull "valve cover"
pull one of the rockers
pull injector
Only thing I havent searched deep on, is re-installing the rocker. If its a torque to setting, or a "by feel" adjustment.
Can anyone confirm the normal issue, and amount of work? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Didn't you just recently talk yourself in to selling a 1 ton truck and say a Blazer can tow really well?

Stop it with the logic!
Dang.. I got a set of stock cummins lifters at work, but forgot to check which year they're for. I think they're for a 98 though. Someone upgraded and gave me the "old" ones. |

So what are you going to tell your wife?
Happy Valentine day, honey! I sold our nice car for an old tired truck! |

I dunno guys, if I had a choice between the combo of a 6.5 GMC and a highfalutin Nissan versus a Common Rail I know which way I'd go.
As long as the tranny doesn't crap the bed, the injectors don't peter out, the lift pump doesn't die and the front ball joints don't walk away he'll be fine.
Seems to me like the CTD lash is set with a setscrew on the rocker, not by the hold-down bolt. |

But then again, you're not married either....
If you had an Infinity in the driveway, then I can guarantee you'd have your choice of middle aged women to pick from. |

I don't even know what a "c" code means. In Cummin's land we go by the ESN. Typically Cummin's injectors are simple, and the lash SHOULD be set by a feeler gauge, not torqueing the rocker rail.
So is it a 5.9 or? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Dodge engine VIN code.
Diesel jocks are sketchy as f*wk for having any sort of useful info but it looks like Dodge did some half-year business in '04 rolling out the 600tq engines.
I still say quit worrying and buy it. CTD guys swap injectors out all day long trying to break their transmissions. It can't be that hard if they've got it figured out.
I only see one problem with this whole scam (and one of you grizzled married guys may confirm or deny my theory). With the highfalutin Nissan and the GMC out of the way the Dodge will be by far the nicest vehicle you own. In practice women never drive Camaros (what with the breaking down and all) and she won't want to drive your Blazer around with the gas can hanging on the bumper, so she'll be down to driving your truck, and trust me, some of those new CTD's are pretty damn woman-ized with the smooth and quiet ride. |

Twilight, I did look up the rocker arm setting, and yes it is set with feeler gauge. Didnt know that tell I looked it up.
Aaron, I dont give a damn what any woman thinks, or cares about me. Let alone, plans on driving my stuff since my insurance policy clearly states "NO FEMALE DRIVERS". Yes, it says that. |

I had a ford in the other day. 36k miles bad injectors and they burned out the injector driver as well. Almost $900 apiece for injectors $500 for the driver and it needed to be flashed. Sent that thing back to Ford. |
