Last month or so I've been building a rear jeep bumper. Wanted to get the spare off of the tailgate since it seemed to be warping and leaking water inside. Price of new bumpers with tire carriers is insane so I bought a bumper kit and then added my own tire carrier to it. Here's how it came out.
This is what the bumper started out as.
It's still not really completely done. When I can afford them I'll be adding some rotopax gas cans in the hoops. The reason the spare sticks out so far right now, is that I made it to fit my 33" tires and the gas cans. This spare is only a 31" |

Looks awesome. Is the receiver usable? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Ya its braced in the back pretty well. I havent put my hitch into it yet. Pin goes in behind of course. JCR didn't rate it for towing because that takes actual testing for the DOT but I don't see why it wouldnt hold up.
Also there are notches at the bottom of the bumper where some kind of safety chain set up can be hooked up. |

Yeah, one of the catches with the aftermarket bumper. No one wants to pay for DOT.
I put a 2" receiver assembly in mine and kept it out for the pin and added some 3/8 plate for safety chains. I've towed about 5000lbs with it up the mountain with no issue. Mine is dead on the bottom and siamesed in.
Pin in the back seems like a giant PITA> _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I would have thought so too, but looks alot better, and I think its easy enough to get to. Plus, if the thing actually broke you'd have to pull the entire pin completely through the bumper plate before the trailer would actually disconnect. Might be a good thing with my welding skills |

Nice bumper! You did a great job with it.
I had a receiver built into the bumper of my Cherokee (Durango 4x4) and I used it to move my trailer into and out of parking spot on side of house. The mount was pretty darn high though. Even with an 8" drop stinger the trailer was still nearly dragging tail. |

Yup. Cheapest rubicon I could find at the time. Seems to have been a good one though, just high miles. |

Time to work on the other end a little bit. Here's tonights addition.
Engo 10k lb winch. The cover is a little baggy because I don't have the solenoid pack wired/mounted yet. Added some more mirror red powder coat. This is with the theme of the new 2013 rubi which has all the tow hooks, winch parts, and interior bright red no matter the color of the jeep.
OH and this was a surprise. I knew the winch was made in China. But I did n't know that Engo's headquarters is in Longbeach Washington! Heck, just down the road really. The guy who owns Engo used to head Mile Marker and his dad actually started Mile Marker. |

| Looks like the bumper is doing what its supposed to. Even though I havent tweeked the tailgate into shape yet the carpet is nearly dry!! Looks like the spare was causing the leak issue. |
