Just moved over from Thirdgen, figured it was best since its pretty dead over there and ive heard great things about CC. My name is David im currently stationed at JBLM ( Fort Lewis).

Current ride is a verry clean 1986 Firebird Trans Am sporting 98k mi originally... think thats what im most proud of on my car.

Im just back to Thirdgen's been trying to get a new one for almost 5 years and finally made it happen.

Thank you all for the welcome, I do love my car, almost as much as my wife dose some times i think lol, there are a few cosmetic things i need to get fixed before i really start showing her off.

Anyone now where i can take the bird to get a good tuning around JBLM/ lakewood?

well, i have a carborated*sp* 305, not sure if it has a chip. I have alot to learn on the tech side of things for these cars, i can turn a wrench and do head space and timing, but alot of the electrical im lost on lol. Im going to rebuild the carb on it and give her a general tune up but ive never been good with dialing in a carborator.

Computer controlled quadrajet, so yes it has a chip.

What is wrong with it that's got you tearing apart the carb?

its 100% original stock, and after doing some digging it seems as tho the last ( original owner) did regular maintand didnt drive the car alot, not alot of the maint was done on time and i have a nagging fealing i have some leaky seals that shouldnt be leaking. im currently idling at about 4-500 rpm, which seems a little low, ive always idled at 7-800 in my other two thirdgens. Tearing into the carb will be a last resort TBH, im going to adjust the idle first and adjust the Air/fuel mix as its running a bit rich now.

I think i also be leaking oil onto my pistons. every time i start her up i get some smoking but after about a min of idling it stops. I think its burning off the excess oil that is bleeding onto the pistons.

Curb idle speed on the LG4 with the autotragic is 500rpm in gear.

As Ian said, the Chevy salute is normal (for a Chevy). Razz

An abnormally low rich idle can also be caused by retarded initial timing. I you have a timing light it's a free check.
