In my 85 383, I understand (based on the paper work) that the heads were done very well on the carbed 383.

I topped out at 109 at PIR last year, and that's with a stock converter that did not like that at all.... and a stock cam.

I'm keeping this car race only. Right now, it's got a 4.10 open rear end and a turbo 350.

So, it's time for another converter. It's also time for a cam.

How high do I go for the stall? I was thinking in terms of 3500 or so. This is for racing only.

Suggestions?

I would talk to whoever you get the cam from, they should be able to recomend a stall speed that matches the cams power range.

I would give a call to A-1 transmission in Vancouver. They do a pretty good job at spec'ing a converter and they custom make them as well. However, I'd advise you to get a locker/posi/spool before a different cam. The better you can hook up, the better your ET's will be.

It is. This was the 3rd or 4th time I'd gone down the strip. The video speaks for itself, though; wife is doing the voice-over.

The converter is leaking like a sieve and I've just about got it out.

I bought the car from a former Crewbie, who gave me the low-down:

Stock coverter and stock cam.

Any suggestions for a race-only cam set up?

Stock cam 383? WTF does that mean.

I prefer Continental converters. Or buck up and buy a Vigilante.

Far as I know, it means that it's the same roller cam that came with the 350.

Thus, stock camshaft.

Thanks for the tip on the TC's.

Never spec a tc without knowing the combo on the engine. If you plan on changing the cam change that and get the engine buttoned up then spec that TC

I bought a street edge converter 2800rpm, I have driven the car a few times since I have had it installed. It definatly wakes the car up. I havent really had the car out to much since it was installed so I can not comment on its durablity. Based on the reviews, I saw it should hold up well, it ran about $550. Definatly had a seat of your pants improvement and im running a smaller cam than you plan to.
