Auto or manual?

Pulling engine and trans as one?

Reguardless:
Disconnect battery
Drain cooling system
Remove radiator and fans.
Remove wiring harness from entire engine
Unbolt exhaust manifolds from exhaust pipes
Unbolt engine mount through bolts.
Remove fuel lines and vacuum lines from engine
Remove air box and intake air ducting
Coolant hoses from engine

Auto stay in car:
unbolt bell housing from engine, but leave 2 bolts in.
Remove inspeciton plate
Remove torque converter to flex plate bolts

Auto with engine:
Unbolt from cross member
Remove cross member
Drain and or plug drive shaft hole after you remove driveshaft
Remove dipstick tube
Remove TV cable from throttle body and supporting brackets

Manual stay in car:
Unbolt bellhousing from engine, leave 2 bolts until hoist is on

Manual with engine:
Unbolt from cross member
Remove cross member
Drain and or plug drive shaft hole after you remove driveshaft
Unbolt slave cylinder from bellhousing and move aside

There are other other little things, but this is off the top of my head.

MY preference is to remove motor and tranny..

u can damage seals in tranny if u dont remove and install torque converter correctly-and thats harder to do if tranny is in the car....

and either way it wont be easy.....

Converter should be installed in the transmission, then bolted to the flex plate. Not the other way around.

No way to damage the seal really. The converter just needs to be assured that it's installed properly on the pump dogs.

That said, if you have enough people and a load leveler, pulling the motor with the trans is by far the easiest way.

My preference:

Jack up the rear of the car and put it on jackstands. Leave the front on the ground. This improves your angle removing the engine and transmission. Remove both together with a load leveler. I always used a hoist attached to the ceiling but a cherry picker works fine with this way as well.

Maybe it's all my practice with the Firebird, but pulling an engine is an easy one man job. Disconnect battery and just start removing stuff until the engine and trans are out. Confused

Putting it all back together the way it was before you messed with it.... now that's a whole different story! Laughing

When I pulled my 350 and t56 it would tip the engine hoist. So I needed someone to stand on it.

Extra knowledgeable people are good for company and if you are inexperienced.

I'm with stupid

Those of us with a shop and many swaps under our belt can go from a running driving car to an engine on the stand while working solo in no time, but we couldn't always do it that easy.

You got PM, BTW.

Man that guy is a tool.

I would suggest you s**t into a box and send it to him, but he knows where you live so you might want to just send the bolts. Razz

Was that a 2.8L that you pulled? If so, I bet it was easier than pulling a small block by far. Cool
