|
|
Hey guys, I'm battling the the previous owners lack of cooling system maintenance in the lt1. I've flushed it about 4 or 5 times and it still looks like swamp thing is living in my radiator. The radiator, water pump, heater core, and hoses are all brand new.
So my question is what is the best, most aggressive, harmful to the environment, stuff to clean out the rust and crap in the block?

If you can find an OLD bottle of prestone flush. From like 15 years ago. That stuff kicked ass. They have redone it so that some dishwasher soap I swear would be better. |

There used to be some old school powder that was awesome. The water would actually get hot when you added it.. major chemical reaction. Bout 4 or 5 years ago it disappeared from our shelves though. Now its all pretty much just soapy water. |

This is the Cascade Crew, duder. You need to use a proper Cascade-approved cleaning solution:
Brandon suggested that to me one time because he had read it somewhere and we were out of ideas. Sh*t works like a charm. Here's what I did:
Dumped the coolant, pulled the stat, filled with water and added a generous amount of the liquid soap for automatic machines. Ran the car up to temp then dumped it out and did a normal flush & fill with the T in the heater line and all that jazz. |

It did indeed. I wish I would have videotaped it.
The engine I used it in had been ruined by someone's use of radiator "repair" crap. The dish soap turned the clumpy clay sh** into a fine slush that just ran right out. The trick is to use the stuff for automatic machines so it doesn't aerate. |

I was reading around and people have been saying dump 5 quarts of vinegar in and top off with distilled water and run it up to temp. Probly hotter temp than normal. Then flush. I'm glad this came up though because mine is really bad. I just paid $70 for eagle tire to do nothing. |

Dude, WTF is vinegar going to do? It's just a mild acid. May as well put orange juice in it. |

It will get rid of the odor from last week's chicken pot pie that is clogged in the return hose. |

The buildup inside the radiator is calcium buildup from tap water. Vinegar is the same thing you use to clean out coffee pots with calcium buildup. It needs to get hot, then sit for some time and dumped and flushed. I was just asking how hot I should get the car before it gets dumped. What is in the Cascade complete that cleans out the radiator? |
