I had the car DEQ'd and it failed due to HC's at 285 and 303 (benchmark is 220) and smoking to much. I seafoamed the gas, oil and through a vacuum line. I don't know how much it helped with the numbers, and the car is still smoking blue as bad as ever.

I know I need the valve seals changed, but is it safe to add a stop leak additive to the oil when I have already added seafoam.

You are dumping the wrong thing in the wrong tank.

Run the tank way down, drive to the test place and pull over just up the road. Dump a bottle of Iso-Heat in it, go pass the test then immediately fill up.

Deq results in
Before Iso-Heet to a very low tank: HC's were at 285 and 305 (standard is 220)

After, it was 221. Much clsoer, but they still failed me for smoking. Crying or Very sad

How hot do you usually run it? Ideally you want it hot as possible to pass. You might have to unhook the fan while you test or maybe even swap the t-stat out temporarily.

You could also try retarding the timing.

I have a electric fan rigged to an on/off toggle under my light switch, I run it as long as I dare, due to my temp gauge not working. I'm not concerned about the hydrocarbons so much as the blue smoke.

I know I may have to have my rings or seals replaced, If I haven't destroyed the cylinder walls by now. I'm trying my hardest to avoid that scenario, seeing as how I am an unemployed 20 credit hour student. Thank you Mr. tax payer.

A- He's in OReGomi. They don't like VISUAL smoke at all and will fail you. Or fail you for noise just ask John.

Your best bet is to install a new cat to try and kill the smoke. Get the motor hot. Blue smoke regular running is going to be rings.

It's under acceleration only, or at least I don't see much when it's just idling.

Valve seals leak under high vacuum usually deceleration.

Have you made sure it's coming out the tail pipe and not fromt an external engine source and burning on the exhaust?

The local shop said "it can be up to a couple of thousand" to do a rebuild, and doing it myself is beyond my skill, equipment and funds so,

SO if I can't get it through DEQ, it looks like I'll burn through some trip permits, and sell, it part it, or let it sit until I have the money to swap out the engine.

Like I said. Best bet is to put a new cat on it or a 2nd cat and hope it cleans the smoke up enough. If it does, the emissions will take care of itself also.

Also, a fresh oil change is good for DEQ.

Full synthetic I'd imagine? I just have the jiffy lube special junk in there. Only like 300 miles worth of driving since the last oil change.

I'd think thicker would be better, but I'll wait for Paul to chime in on that.

How much does it cost in Oregon to get a waiver?

I didn't know we had waivers, I'm only seeing that certain types of vehicles are exempt.

In washington, if you go to an emmissions certified shop and have 150 dollars worth of work done and it still fails, you receive an exemption and can buy tabs. At least thats how it was 7 years ago.
