1983 Pontiac Firebird

PostPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 11:33 am    Post subject: Hello all! Reply with quote

I found this site from thirdgen.org. I recently got a 83 Firebird. I live in Kent. Would love to meet up with anyone in the area or whatever group meets you all do. Be warned that I basically know nothing about working on cars but I've always loved third gens so I finally got one for a good deal. I'll post pictures soon!

Welcome! We're not too keen on firebirds around here... Wink

Don't worry about not knowing much. We all started there. Just don't ACT like you know everything and you'll be golden!

Firebirds are awesome, but everyone should really have one of each!

haha agreed! Too bad where I live, I can't have another car. Plus I don't really drive (i ride my bike to work and take the train). My car is just a toy. So having two toy cars seems silly at the moment Smile

Welcome!

I have an 83 Firebird too so if you ever need anything from the service manual I have it. I also have the dealer promos and books for it.

here are some pics of my Firebird. I bought it for $1500. It's the S/E model but the previous owner did some stuff to it (more than I even know I'm sure). It has a brand new 350 engine and transmission. He bought it himself like 9 years ago but never drove it...said he drove it like 50 miles that whole time. He just did some restoration work on it but decided to sell it and not finish.

Is that a fake shaker hood? Craziness. Surprised

Like the color.

T-top car, so you're automatically one of the cool kids.

Got bonked in the front at some point. Chin spoiler doesn't match the rest of the car. I vote to ditch the rest of the ground effects, but what do I know, all my thirdgens just sit in pieces. Rolling Eyes

Needs to be lowered.

Fix the tires so they are all whites out or all blacks out. Looks weird right now with the mix-n-match.

Please don't construe my random thoughts as disapproval, that is a nice car, man. Thumbs up

The hood is original but that "shaker" or whatever it is was put on top of it. It sucks as it's starting to rust around it

the previous owner painted it himself to match what the original stock color would be. It's not bad...for now. I want to paint it black or blue eventually though I think.

I love t-tops!

actually the car didn't have any ground effects. The previous owner put the other stuff on but could never find the front chin spoiler...I can't seem to find it either. And it drives me nuts!

Yes, needs to be lowered...beefier tires would help with the look at least though.

Haha I never even noticed that about the tires...Probably need to get new ones by winter anyways.

and thanks!

Indeed. One year option (except for the '83 Daytona cars). I would ditch them and weld the holes up. That's just me though. Wink

problem is I like the ground effects lol, especially with it not being lowered. I might have to get some other aftermarket one someday..who knows. that and paint will be the last thing I do anyways.

good looking car Smile you're basically surrounded by WA crewbies. John (RSFreak) and I meet up a couple of times a month. Aaron and others show up from time to time as well.

nice! Well, I'm down for meeting up whenever that happens if I can. Like I said, I'm a car n00b when it comes to fixing them and stuff but I've always liked cars. Just hangin out with smart guys like yourselves will eventually rub off I'm sure. And at least it would be fun Very Happy

and thanks Al!

Welcome to the crew. Stay here long enough and we'll change your mind about having a few project cars laying about...

heh I didn't say I wouldn't want to but ya...where I live, I can't have more than 2 cars (already have two there). Trying to save up for a house so even trying to start to work on this car will take some arguing with myself to do...let alone with another project! I'd love to have a camaro someday as well though. I was looking at both at the time but the firebird I got was a better deal than anything I saw so I grabbed it.
