So I finally have started sriving my car around. and have gotten it past second gear. Anyways about where should my rpms be and at what speeds. 327 with 700r4 no lock up. It just seems to be really high around 45 mph ( that's as fast as I have got) somewhere around 3000 rpm or so, perhaps more. |

| Third. i can get it to shift up to third at alomost any rpms by playing with gas pedal. But I drove it again, not as bad as I thought, about 2500 or so at 50, I haven't gone faster, but another question is what lock up does. Is that what allows it to go into overdrive?? |

He means rear axle gears, not transmission gears. No lockup in the 700 = massive heat and then no third and fourth after you cook the guts. Need to get that fixed.

| Reason why I ask is because I have done some reading and some say t lock up is what puts it in forth, and others say has nothing to do with it. |

| Doesn't matter what gear it's in, it will smoke itself without the lockup working. |

Tci lockup kit takes about an hour and has perfectly good instructions.
700R4 has 4 gears. Lockup has nothing to do with the gears. It just takes the slip out of the converter. You wont grenade the trans yet. If you have a good oil cooler and don't beat on it and drive in 100deg heat everyday.
It' doesn't hurt anything but milage until the heat gets built up. Figure th350 and th400 run all the time without lockup. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Aren't the 700R4/4L60's the ones that don't run fluid through the cooler correctly unless they are locked up?
Regardless, for the price of the kit to do it right ($150) it is not worth risking additional damage to an already piss-poorly designed transmission. |

Driving easy you should have been in 4th. 3k rpm is too high even to be in 3d. Figure 2 of my vehicles have no gears past 3d, 3.08 gears, and taller tires then yours, and they turn 2200 or so at 55.
The 700 cuts cooler flow to like 60% without the convertor locked. Why I have no clue, because that is totally bass awkwards from anything you'd want. But Paul is right too, cause heat is what kills the trans. If the trans stays cool with that amount of flow it wont die anyway.
TV cable adjustment is critical. If everything isnt exactly perfect the shifts will be incorrect.. and internal tranmission pressures will be wrong as well. Thus allowing slipping and the trans to fail. |

| Also. How to I determine which TV cable I nedd. When I go on line to check they have different ones for different engine codes ??? but my engine was not born in my car. Perhaps they are making it more complicated then it need to be??? |

| Biggest thing.. is it carburated? and if so stock or aftermarket. If its aftermarket you get into problems. Alot of the aftermarket linkages are not correct. Especially holley's. Check out bowtieoverdrives tv made easy kit. It's spendy, but it works. They also have alot of info there on how to set up a system yourself. |

| Ok ... early quadrajets have the hookup pin in the wrong place. If it was made in the 80s though I'd expect it to be good. Otherwise.. if you need a cable just buy one for a vin H LG4 car. |

What are you doing Monday? I can stop by and drop that tach/oil gauge off Monday night and go for a test drive with you to verify correct tranny function and TV cable adjustment?
I'm driving by Renton Monday evening this weekend. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
